DICE Awards Results Are In And Breath Of The Wild Is The Big Winner

Awards season is here, and we’re not talking about the Oscars and the Emmys. Each year, the Academy of Interactive Arts & Sciences (AIAS) presents the D.I.C.E Awards, recognizing “games, individuals and development teams that have contributed to the advancement of the multi-billion dollar worldwide entertainment software industry. The D.I.C.E. Awards are the most credible, respected and recognized awards for the interactive entertainment community with voting cast by members of the Academy’s 33,000+ membership base.”

Nintendo Wins The Night

This week, the D.I.C.E. Awards took place in Las Vegas and nominees and winners were chosen from the very best games of 2017. The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild took home top honors as Game of the Year, but also snagged wins in three other categories: Outstanding Achievement in Game Direction, Outstanding Achievement in Game Design, and Adventure Game of the Year. For anyone who has played this outstanding game, it was an easy choice.

This year’s awards could easily be nicknamed “The Year of Nintendo Switch” with the hybrid console recognized in several categories. Super Mario Odyssey showed up in the Game of the Year nominees and won Outstanding Achievement in Sound Design, while Mario Kart 8 Deluxe took home Racing Game of the Year honors. Mario + Rabbids Kingdom Battle, Nintendo’s clever, colorful take on the strategy genre featuring beloved characters won Strategy/Simulation Game of the Year.

Nintendo may have dominated many of the categories, but the awards as a whole represented the best in gaming for 2017. “Every year, the D.I.C.E. Awards brings the global interactive entertainment industry under one roof to recognize and honor the very best in video games – the games that captivated and inspired us, and kept us entertained for hours on end,” said Meggan Scavio, president, Academy of Interactive Arts & Sciences.
