Call of Duty’s St. Patrick’s Day Event: Gear, Game Modes, and More

St. Patrick’s day isn’t just about wearing green and drinking excessive amounts of beer; it also means leprechauns. Call of Duty: WWII is offering a huge St. Patrick’s Day event, aptly titled “Shamrock and Awe” featuring tons of cool updates, leprechauns, and more.

New Map, Weapons, and More

Fans of Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare may remember the map “Shipment”. The latest Call of Duty update, coinciding with Shamrock and Awe brings a remastered version of the map, called “Shipment: 1944”. Season Pass players have early access to the map on March 16 and it becomes available to play for on March 16. This new map will still be available after the event ends.

Suit up in all new St. Patrick’s Day gear including themed uniforms, helmets, weapon camos, and more. Beyond the event items, weapon charms, new weapon variants, weapon camos, weapon reticles, uniforms, helmets, and permanent collections are being released during the event.

There are also two new weapons, the M-38 Submachine Gun and the MG-81 Light Machine Gun.

Zombie Leprechauns

One of the most anticipated elements of Shamrock and Awe is the Leprechaun Hunt Moshpit. According to Call of Duty: WWII Community:

“Leprechaun Hunt Moshpit takes traditional Team Deathmatch, Hardpoint, Kill Confirmed and Domination modes and adds a small twist – a scurrying leprechaun hiding around the map. Players who manage to eliminate this mischievous little sprite are rewarded with the Scorestreaks they have equipped, providing a quick way to change the game.

This mode will be available as a Featured Public Match playlist during the event, and it will sport 2XP from March 16 at 10am Pacific until March 19 at 10am Pacific to help you level up.”

Major Game Updates

The St. Patrick’s Day event also coincides with some major updates and changes to the game that are not directly related to Shamrock and Awe. In addition to the game modes Prop Hunt and Gun Game being added to the regular rotation, loot delivery has changed.

Sledgehammer Games describes the updates to the loot delivery in both supply drops and at the Quartermaster:

“Increased Number of Weapons & Premium Content per Update – We’re adding new ranged weapons, more cosmetic weapon variants, and themed uniforms with a commitment to double-down on these categories moving forward so you’ll be able to get more of the content you want.

More Ways to Earn Weapons – We are offering a variety of paths to obtain the most-wanted weapons and weapon variants in-game as more will be made available via Orders and Contracts, in addition to existing Weapon Collections and Supply Drops.

Lowered Duplicate Rates – We are reducing the frequency of duplicates you’ll receive within Supply Drops to deliver more new content in every drop.

Rebalanced Category Reward Rates – This will ensure you are getting a wider variety of content categories within every drop, which will make the unboxing experience more satisfying (we heard you on what it feels like to get triple duplicate pistol grips).

New Special Orders – We heard your feedback on certain weapons being available only via Common Supply Drops and how hard they are to get. We are moving these into Special Orders so that they are easier to access.

New Categories of Items – You will have more ways to customize your solider and loadout with the introduction of weapon charms, camos, and reticles.

Content Changes – We are removing gold foil calling cards, and won’t be adding new pistol grips to the loot pool.

Armory Drops – We are adding a new Supply Drop type “Armory Drops” which will function a lot like Bribes but can be obtained for Armory Credits to provide yet another way to get the content you’re after.”
